Built in the early 1980’s, at a time when Sugar Land was beginning to emerge as a premier suburb of Houston, Sweetwater Country Club was first made famous by the vision and commitment focused on providing a new home for the Ladies Professional Golf Association. Designed by Roger Packard, Sweetwater opened it’s first course in 1982, challenging players of all abilities ranging from the dedicated golf members and guests to LPGA Tour Professionals. Host to the LPGA Hall Of Fame Classic in 1984 and 1985, Sweetwater welcomed Hall of Famers Nancy Lopez and Amy Alcott as champions who endured near U.S. Open course conditions along with the sweltering July heat know to Texans. Proud of the history and heritage before it, Sweetwater Country Club now lives on as a formidable test in golf for the firmly established family-oriented community of Sugar Land/First Colony. Two courses (Pecan and Cypress) continue to offer a diverse challenge to golfers of all levels. On the Pecan Course, players will experience lengthy holes of relatively open play, susceptible to our ever present Texas winds and will turn to majestic pecan groves with the tranquility of aged spanish moss. Those who prefer a shorter test are challenged on the Cypress Course with its’ emphasis on position over length to avoid the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. The LPGA designed practice areas allow for complete short game and full swing learning and enjoyment. While Golf is the hub of Sweetwater CC, outstanding tennis, fitness, and social programming in our incredible facilities and service-oriented staff make this Club the place to be in the Houston area!
